About Zonta Club of Dothan
Zonta Club of Dothan is a local chapter of Zonta International, a leading global organization of professionals empowering women worldwide through service and advocacy. Nearly 30,000 members belong to more than 1,200 Zonta Clubs in 67 countries and geographic areas.
Locally, the Zonta Club of Dothan Area's Service Projects have focused primarily on: Chrysalis, A Home for Girls (meets monthly with girls to do activities), Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity Women Build (members work on a building project twice per year), The House of Ruth (members assist with their gift wrapping fundraiser and collect items needed at the shelter) and The Exchange Center (collect items needed for the agency). The club also provides a Young Women in Public Affairs scholarship, Jane M Klauseman scholarship and funds for the local Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Program.
Fundraising and Advocacy
The club raises funds through an annual Poinsettia Sale and International Food Festival as well as club auctions and selling Zonta merchandise. As part of our advocacy work this year we reached out to our Congressional Rep. (who voted against the VAWA) and invited her to meet with 2 of our service partners who work with Domestic Violence victims. She toured both facilities and met with their directors as well 2 reps from the Zonta Club of Dothan. During the tour she offered assistance to both directors.
